Welcome to An Ever Growing Pile Of Songs. Songs-so-many/pile-so-big... must download, then comment... *is hopeful* The original song pile became TOO BIG for Live Journal to process without error, so I guess I’ll have to split it up into sections...
Section 2! ) And don't forget to dive into Section 1, 3 & 5

phantastic pho50 just posted a lovely cover of this song, but this version is nice also:

(Written by Greg Lake and Peter Sinfield. Performed by Emerson, Lake & Palmer with full orchestra at Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 1977. By the way, that's K. Emerson playing the accordion)

Welcome to An Ever Growing Pile Of Songs! I occasionally post to pretty_music and audiography but these songs may not necessarily fit with their respective formats. So I'll put them here, and see what happens. Go ahead, try something new! Please comment because I enjoy this shared love of music, and I'd really like to read your comments. Anyway, I have a dialup connection, so just a few single songs. Buy albums to support the artists/delete songs after 4.5 listenings/be kind to small animals/don't drink cheap domestic beer/yada, yada, yada... The pile became TOO BIG for Live Journal to process without error, so I guess I'll have to split it up into sections...

I think it was the lovely [info]pho50* from over at the awesome [info]more_cmusic who turned me on to Zhong Chi. [Trip-rock, band + electronica, with lyrics sung in English. Similar to the mellower, 'trippier' things by The Gathering]
Here is a clip from the cd release gig, very cool presentation:

I uploaded this a while back but never got around to posting. Anyway, the band UK was a progressive rock 'supergroup', kind of an all-star group of musicians who were already well known from their previous bands. They did two studio and one live album. Long and complicated instrumental passages, virtuosic playing, little chance of a hit single, lol!
UK-The Only Thing She Needs From their second album (Danger Money) the band were now a trio: Eddie Jobson on keyboards/violin, John Wetton on bass/vocal and Terry Bozzio on drums)
Eddie Jobson gets a real workout on this 8 minute song; plenty of organ, piano and synthesizer.
UK Eddie Jobson.gif
bonus: UK-Nevermore (This features the original UK members: Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Bill Bruford on drums along with Jobson and Wetton.)
------------
Who might like UK? (the following is a bit tongue-in-cheek)
1. you loved John Wetton, the singer for Asia, but you thought their music was way too simple and commercial.
2. you loved Terry Bozzio's drumming in Missing Persons, but really didn't like his wife's squeaky voice.
3. you refused to listen to Yes after drummer Bill Bruford quit the band. ;-)
4. you think the guitar playing in progressive rock really ought to be a lot jazzier. ;-)
5. you just love a band where the keyboard player gets equal opportunity to hog the spotlight as a guitar player.

Deep Purple-Space Truckin’
We had a lot of luck on Venus, We always had a ball on Mars
Meeting all the groovy people, We've rocked the Milky Way so far
We danced around with Borealice, We're space truckin' round the the stars
Come on, let's go Space Truckin'
Remember when we did the moonshot, And Pony Trekker led the way
We'd move to the Canaveral moonstomp, And every 'naut would dance and sway
We got music in our solar system, We're space truckin' round the stars
Come on, let's go Space Truckin'
The fireball that we rode was moving, But now we've got a new machine
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah the freaks said, 'Man those cats can really swing
They got music in their solar system, They rock around the Milky Way
They dance around the Borealice, They're Space Truckin' everyday'
Come on, let's go Space Truckin'

Pat Travers-Crash and Burn
Crash And Burn Pat Travers
Well some see this life as nothing more than pain
It's pay out this and line up here, it's all just too insane
And I feel the blues are coming down like rain
My feelings are so complicated I wish I could explain
Turn into words, the way I feel
I know I really need someone, and I need something that's real
But we can't stop this world from its... Crash and Burn

Loneliness becomes a way of life
And you turn off your tv set to shut out all the strife
But there are things that help to ease the pain
You make that call he guarantees to paralyze your brain
Turn into dreams, the way you feel
You know it's really all you need to pretend that it's real
But we can't stop this world from its Crash and burn

I don't even own a bicycle, but I'm glued to the Versus network daily coverage of this thing. They do such a great job of explaining all the team strategies and functions, like how riders rotate places so each guy can get a break in the 'slipstream'. When they eat, (little bags of goodies are handed to them a couple of times along the route) the (flunky) riders that drop back to support vehicles for water, loading up for the other members of the team.
If a rider has a flat tire or mangles his bike, they just pull up in a car and make repairs or give him a new bike. Quick! And oh yes, the crashes.
